Orediggers control statistics, score in win over UCCS
COLORADO SPRINGS â€" The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was outrebounded 52-25 as the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers knocked off the Mountain Lions 79-60 at the Gallogly Events Center.
UCCS was also outshot 46.2 percent to 37.7 percent overall, with a huge 55.6 percent to 21.1 percent margin on 3-pointers. The Mountain Lions, who came into the game the RMAC's third-best free throw shooting team at 73.6 percent, also struggled from the foul line Friday with a 57.1 percent mark.
Emily Dalton had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Mines (18-7, 12-5 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference), while Brecca Gaffney logged 19 points and 13 rebounds. Angie Chachalis added 11 points and Kait Soehner had four assists.
Ashley Miller led UCCS (6-18, 2-14 RMAC) with 15 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.Mallory Lowe added 12 points and four steals, while Lauren Wolfinger had 10 points and four assists.
UCCS led by as many as six in the first half and were trailing by just one with 4:41 left in the period. Mines, though, closed with a 15-6 run, featuring four points each by Gaffney and Charchalis, to go into the break leading 37-28.
The Orediggers outscored UCCS 27-10 over the first nine minutes of the second half to blow the game open.
