Mountain Lions add JUCO guard
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's basketball coach Russ Caton continued to add talent to his team with Wednesday's announcement of the signing of guard Chase Richards to a national letter of intent.
Richards will come to UCCS by way of Central Wyoming College, where he was voted to the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference All-Defensive Team. He led the Rustlers with 2.07 steals per game and was second on the team with three assists per game. He also averaged 9.3 points while shooting 42.9 percent from the field overall and 35 percent on 3-pointers.
"Chase is speed, athleticism, and high basketball IQ all rolled into one," said Caton. "He is going to thrive in a faster-paced game; I think his game is going to take off in our system."
Caton has long kept his eye on Richards, who was also the Utah State champion in the long jump (23 feet, 5 inches) in his senior season at Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah. Richards went on to spend a year at Snow College before moving on to Central Wyoming.
"I've been interested in Chase since my first year here at UCCS," said Caton.
