Caton adds two freshmen to recruiting class
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's basketball coach Russ Caton announced Monday the signing of two Colorado freshmen to national letters of intent. Joining the Mountain Lions for the 2010-11 season will be Jordan Carter of Chatfield High School and Dalton Patten from Chaparral High School.
Caton is pleased with the skill set that the two freshmen will bring
"I'm excited about the long, skilled, athletic game these two play," he said. "The sky is the limit for both of these guys."
Carter is a 6-foot-6 slasher who attacks the rim. He averaged 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Chargers, who finished the season ranked No. 7 in Class 5A after posting a 20-5 record overall and a 12-1 mark in the Jeffco League.
Carter showed the ability to elevate his game against tougher opponents. He had a season-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting with eight rebounds against Denver East on Jan. 6 and 19 points against powerful Montebello on Jan. 9.
Patten is a 6-foot-8 post/forward with the good skills around the hoop and the athleticism to be effective facing the basket as well. He led his team with 7.7 rebounds per game and tied for the team lead with 13.8 points per game while shooting 55.3 percent on 2-pointers and 51.9 percent overall.
He recorded six double-doubles this past season, including one against eventual state champion Regis Jesuit on Jan. 30. In that game, Patten scored 22 of the Wolverines' 47 points while also matching his season high of 14 rebounds. Patten also had 20 points and 10 rebounds against ThunderRidge and 12 points and 14 rebounds against Lewis-Palmer.
