Mountain Lions get date with Metro State in first round of playoffs
COLORADO SPRINGS - The Mountain Lionsâ€TM reward for beating the Regis Rangers Saturday and qualifying for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs will be a third date against the Metro State Roadrunners.
Itâ€TMs s dubious prize.
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs menâ€TMs basketball team will face Metro State in the first round of the RMAC playoffs Tuesday at Auraria Event Center in Denver. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
Metro State won the first two meeting this season between the teams.
The winner will advance to the RMAC Final Four at the Colorado State Fair Events Center in Pueblo on March 5-6. The highest remaining West Division seed will play the lowest remaining East Division seed and vice versa in the semifinals.
UCCS has faced Metro State 36 since the teams first met in 1989 and have never come away with a win. Two of those losses (Feb. 27, 2001 and March 3, 2009) came in first-round RMAC playoff games.
The Mountain Lions qualified for the playoffs for the second year in a row for the first time in school history and will now have been in the playoffs in three or Russ Catonâ€TMs four seasons as the teamâ€TMs coach. UCCS qualified for the playoffs only once, in 2000-01, before Catonâ€TMs arrival.
The first round matchups will be:
#4 CSU-Pueblo at #1 Mesa State - 7 PM
#3 N.M. Highlands at #2 Fort Lewis - 7:30 PM
#4 Colorado Christian at #1 Colorado Mines - 8 PM
#3 UC-Colorado Springs at #2 Metro State - 6 PM
