Smith named first-team all-academic, five other Mountain Lions honored
UCCS forward Cole Smith was named first-team academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while teammate Scott Sublousky was named to the conference's academic second team, the RMAC announced Wednesday.
In addition, Chris Fernandez, Levi Harris, Rob Howe and Tommy Klausner were all listed on the RMAC's academic honor roll.
Smith, who had a 3.489 GPA in Education, is the Mountain Lions' leading scorer at 12.3 points per game. The senior from Burlington, Colo., is also averaging six rebounds and shooting 53.8 percent from the field.
Sublousky, a Business major with a 3.435 GPA, is second on the team in scoring (10.7) and tied for the team lead in 3-pointers made (22).
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. Their GPA is what they had earned prior to basketball season beginning. RMAC Sports Information Directors at schools that sponsor the sport of basketball selected first and second teams.
