Lowe named player of the week
Mallory Lowe of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference East Division Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
As the first player of the week award for the 2009-10 season, all games played since the beginning of the season counted towards the award. This, UCCSâ€TM Nov. 15 game against Montana State-Billings counted as well as the two games the Mountain Lions played at the Adams State Bankers Classic on Nov. 20-21.
Lowe scored 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first career double-double against Panhandle State on the 20th. She also had a team-high three steals and two assists in the win. In the season-opening game at Montana State-Billings (L, 91-57), Lowe posted 14 points and seven rebounds. She added 19 points and nine caroms in a win against Northern New Mexico. In three games, Lowe averaged 16.7 points and 8.7 rebounds.
It was the first career player-of-the-week for Lowe, a junior from Bushnell, Ill. UCCS had just one player of the week in 2008-09 (Jazzmin Awa-Williams for Dec. 16-22), 2007-08 (Tonya Tripp, Nov. 13-19) and 2006-07 (Tripp, Jan. 23-29). The last time UCCS had more than one POW was 2005-06 when Julie Richards (Jan. 21-Dec. 3) won once and Jennine Sauter won twice (Jan. 4-10 and Jan. 18-24).
