Air Force hands UCCS exhibition loss
COLORADO SPRINGS - Mallory Lowe had 15 points and seven rebounds as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs got its only taste of game action before the start of the regular season with an 82-46 exhibition defeat at the hands of the NCAA Division I Air Force Falcons Friday evening at Clune Arena.
Air Force outshot the Mountain Lions 43.9 percent to 26.3 percent and held UCCS to a 3-for-24 (12.5 percent) performance from 3-point range. The Falcons also had a 61-40 advantage on the boards.
Senior Janean Jubic added seven points for the Mountain Lions, while freshman Lauren Wolfinger had six points and six rebounds.
Kathleen Schjodt led Air Force with 20 points, followed by Liz Dunsworth (15) and Raimee Beck (11). Beck grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while Anna Gault handed out 13 assists.
Air Force scored the first seven points before the Mountain Lions, who committed three early turnovers, got off a field goal attempt. Alyse Bessert ended the drought for UCCS with a hoop at the 16:11 mark.
Five minutes later, the lead had swelled to 19-2.
Sparked by a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer by Jessica Lynch, the Mountain Lions closed the gap to 26-14. Air Force answered with an 11-2 run and was never threatened afterward. The Falcons went into the intermission leading 39-19.
