Orediggers take control from start, roll to win over Mountain Lions
GOLDEN, Colo. â€" The Colorado School of Mines Orediggers took control from the opening tip and never relented in rolling to an impressive 83-51 victory over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Saturday at Lockridge Arena.
Mines (16-9, 13-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) scored the gameâ€TMs first 13 points and built that advantage to 45-18 by halftime. In the period, the Orediggers shot 60 percent from the field while holding UCCS (8-17, 6-11 RMAC) to 18.5 percent (5-for-27).
For the game, Mines outshot UCCS 53.4 percent to 23 percent and outrebounded the Mountain Lions 47-31.
Payden Ackerman led UCCS with 15 points, while Nancy Hoist added 10.
Brecca Gaffney scored 16 points to lead Mines, which had 13 different players score. Katie Carty had a game-high eight rebounds, while she and Savannah Ofoa each blocked three shots.
