Awa-Williams named RMAC East Division player of the week
Jazzmin Awa-Williams of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference East Division player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
The sophomore from Kailuakona, Hawaii, broke her own school record by making 10 consecutive field goal attempts over three games. She made her final two attempts against Western New Mexico on Dec. 13, went 7-for-7 against CSU-Pueblo on Friday and then hit her first attempt against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday.
In two wins at home this past week, Awa-Williams averaged 17.5 points, eight rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals. She made 11-of-14 field goals (78.6 percent) and 13-of-16 free throws (81.3 percent). She led a UCCS bench that out-scored the starters 92-63 over the past two games and she led the team in scoring (35) and assists (nine) over the past two games.
For the season, she is shooting an RMAC-best 62 percent from the field and is 13th in scoring at 12.8 points per game despite averaging only 17 minutes per contest.
