Boy's basketball individual skills camp underway at Rec Center

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs coach Russ Caton has a very nice problem: his summer camps have grown near their limits.

Caton and the Mountain Lions are currently conducting the UCCS Individual Skills Camp, which is scheduled to run from June 2-5 at the school's new Recreation Center. This year's camp boasts approximately 50 campers with ages ranging from 8-20.

"This camp continues to grow," said Caton. "Next year, we may have to split it up (into multiple sessions)."

That the camp is at the Recreation Center is already one sign of that growth as it has swelled beyond the capacity of the Lions' Den. It is possible that the new UCCS Events Center will be open and available for next year's camp, which will increase the camp's capacity significantly.

Despite the increased size, the UCCS camps are still a great value for the camper. This year, Caton has eight current UCCS players along with assistant coaches Patrick Simpson and Nic Fuller all instructing campers.

"It's a great opportunity to work on individual skills," said Caton. "We have a lot of coaches, so the player-to-coach ratio is very good."

Caton and the Mountain Lions have 35 high school teams, including one from Missouri, schedule to compete in the UCCS Team Camp, which will be held June 6-7.
