Tripp's 20 can't top Lopers
Despite 20 points by Tonya Tripp, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs fell 76-61 to the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Saturday at Kearney.
Tripp went 9-of-13 from the field for the Mountain Lions (6-10, 5-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). The junior from Dilworth, Minn., has now scored in double figures in seven of her past nine games.
After a Dolly Fiedelman steal and layup in the gameâ€TMs opening minutes gave UCCS a 10-7 lead, the Lopers (12-4, 7-2 RMAC) dominated the rest of the first half, outscoring the Mountain Lions 31-17.
UCCS chipped away at the deficit, even taking a 56-55 lead after a jumper by Tripp with 8:51 remaining. The game was tied at 59 with 5:39 left when UNK reeled off eight straight. After UCCSâ€TM Emily Jenkins made a free throw, the Lopers scored another nine in a row to seal the win.
Nancy Hoist added 12 points for UCCS, which committed a season-high 32 turnovers.
Three Lopers, Jonni Mildenberger, Liz Fischer and Amy Mathis, each scored 15 points. Mildenberger added a game-high 10 rebounds.
