Hannaway named to all-region team
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs senior Patrick Hannaway was named to the 2007 Daktronics NCAA Division II North Central Region first team.
The selection served as a vindication of sorts for Hannaway, who was snubbed by Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coaches during the voting for the all-RMAC team. Hannaway was named first-team all-East, but was left off the all-RMAC squad.
The Daktronics award, however, is voted on by the sports information directors within the region. That group voted Hannaway onto the all-region team by virtue of his RMAC-best 21.5 points per game and 63.6 percent field goal shooting. Voting was conducted among sports information directors from the North Central Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
By virtue of his selection, Hannaway is now a candidate for the 2007 Daktronics all-American team to be announced March 20.
John Smith of Winona State was named 2007 Daktronics NCAA Division II North Central Region Menâ€TMs Player of the Year.
Smith and Hannaway were joined on the first team by Luke Anderson of Minnesota State University, Mankato, Jonte Flowers of Winona State and Dusty Jura of University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Smith averaged 16.8 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game this winter and was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Most Valuable Player. He helped the Warriors match the NCAA Division II record of 52 consecutive victories and earned a second straight NSIC Tournament MVP award.
A four-time All-NCC selection, Anderson averaged 19.3 ppg and 4.7 rpg. Flowers helped the Warriors post a perfect 30-0 this season and averaged 14.7 ppg and 5.3 rpg. A two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, Jura helped the ‘Lopers log a 23-6 record and averaged 21.2 ppg and 10.2 rpg.
The second team includes Tim Bieri of Fort Lewis College, David Dreas of St. Cloud State University, Dylan Grimsley of University of South Dakota, Zack Malvik of Winona State and Brian Stamer of Colorado Christian University.
