Coyote-ugly game in Golden
Despite a game-high 18 points by Dolly Fiedelman, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs dropped a 73-69 decision to the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes Friday afternoon at Golden, Colo.
The Mountain Lions (1-8) led by as many as six in the second half and was leading 64-59 with 4:19 remaining in the game when they went ice cold. UCCS went 0-for-3 from the field and 1-for-5 from the foul line over the next 3:27 to help the Coyotes go on a 10-1 run.
After Tonya Tripp hit a layup to cut the Mountain Lion deficit to 69-67, Kansas Wesleyan was able to succeed where UCCS had failed. The Coyotes made four of their six free throws down the stretch to keep the Mountain Lions at armâ€TMs length.
UCCS also had a six-point lead late in the first half but committed three turnovers in the final two minutes to facilitate a 7-1 Kansas Wesleyan run that tied the score at 37 at the intermission.
Emily Jenkins and Tripp both logged double-doubles for the Mountain Lions. Jenkins had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Tripp had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Stacy LaBuhn added five assists while Jenkins had four steals.
Ascendra Peters led Kansas Wesleyan (5-9) with 14 points and five assists.
UCCS will face Biola Saturday at Golden. Game time is 2 p.m.
