UCCS women fall to 0-5
Andrea Schoepf scored 19 points to lead the 24th-ranked Wayne State Wildcats to a 64-45 victory over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon at Wayne, Neb.
With the loss, the Mountain Lions fell to 0-5 for the third time in school history. UCCS went winless in its first five games in 2002-03, 1989-90 and 1990-91. Only once, in 1990-01, has a UCCS team opened 0-6.
Dolly Fiedelman and Emily Jenkins led the Mountain Lions with nine points each. Nancy Hoist and Tonya Tripp added eight points each, while Tripp grabbed a game-high 11 boards as UCCS outrebounded Wayne State 41-32.
Wayne State outscored UCCS 40-23 in the second half to break open what had been a close game.
The Mountain Lions continued their shooting woes. UCCS, which entered the game shooting an anemic 33.8 percent, made only 31.5 percent of its field goal attempts Sunday.
Amanda Covington added 17 points for Wayne State (6-1).
The Mountain Lions will begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this week when they travel to Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday and to Adams State on Saturday.
