UCCS women stave-off Cougars late
COLORADO SPRINGS - On strength of Ashley Miller's free-throw shooting the University of Colorado Colorado Springs pulled out a close victory 78-74 against the Colorado Christian University Cougars Friday evening at the Gallogly Events Center.
All of Miller's clutch free-throws - she went 6 of 9 on the night -- came in the second-half and seemed to extend the Mountain Lion lead when they needed it most.
Despite the victory UCCS actually lost the second-half 41-36 but managed to pull out the victory due to the nine-point halftime advantage they enjoyed of 42-33.
Leading UCCS in scoring was Jessica Brown with 17 points, while Miller pitched in 16 points of her own.
There was plenty of scoring to go around however as Abby Kirchoff, Sammi Gentile, Danielle Brown and Hannah Knight all contributed with eight points apiece.
Bre McBeth had an efficient night with a game-high 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting for Colorado Christian who dropped to 13-14 overall and 11-10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The win was UCCS' fourth straight and improves the Mountain Lions to 15-11 overall and 11-10 in the RMAC. It also gives the Mountain Lions a chance to host a home playoff game if a few cards fall into place tomorrow night, including a victory against the Colorado School of Mines.
