Lady Mountain Lions make it four in a row with win over the UNK Lopers
KEARNEY, NE - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Women's basketball team played the second leg of their Nebraska road trip on Saturday night against the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at the Health and Sports Center.
The Lady Mountain Lions were looking for a measure of revenge as UCCS lost against the Lopers earlier in the season. Not only that, but the Mountain Lions are still very much in the hunt for a spot in the post season RMAC Shootout, so the matchup with Kearney was huge for many reasons.
UCCS was up for the challenge beating the UNK Lopers 73-66. The Mountain Lions improved their overall record to 15-11, and evened their RMACrecord at 10-10. And the storylines for the win against Kearney were similar to others on this four game winning streak: Brown twins light up the scoreboard, Freshman sensation Abby Kirchoff goes off, and overcoming a halftime deficit with stellar second half play. Jessica and Danielle Brownaccounted for 34 points tonight, 24 by Jessica and 10 from Danielle. Kirchoff, going 5-6 of three-point range, finished with 20 points. And to cap it off, the Mountain Lions went in at halftime down five, only to come out in the second half to outscore the Lopers 35-23.
The Lady Mountain Lions will finish their regular season at UCCS in the Gallogly Events Center with games against Colorado Christian University on Friday night (February 24th) followed by Senior Night on Saturday (February 25th) when they will take on Colorado School of Mines. Both games will have a significant impact on the shape of the RMAC Tournament, one that UCCS seems primed to make a run at.
