UCCS drops close game to No. 7 Metro State

COLORADO SPRINGS -- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs won the battle of the second-half 25-24, but lost the war as they dropped Saturday night's contest 55-48 to the No. 7-ranked Metro State Roadrunners at the Gallogly Events Center.

UCCS came out in full-force as they held 15-6 advantage with 13:28 in the first-half. Metro State then proceeded to conduct one of their many rallies of the night as they scored eight unanswered points.

However, the run that broke the camel's back came at the end of the first-half when the Roadrunners went on a 10-2 spurt that made the score 31-22 at the break.

The Mountain Lions were slow starting in the second-half but came to life as time went on, aided by a surplus of trips to the line where they converted 11-18.

The UCCS' rally made the score 47-49 with 1:58 remaining after a pair of Kassie Stratton free-throws but Jasmine Cervantes -- eight points and six assists -- and the nationally ranked Roadrunners answered back.

A Cervantes pass inside to Caley Dow made it 53-48 with 43 seconds remaining to virtually seal-the-deal, while a pair of Cervantes free-throws in the closing seconds made up the final score.

Sammy Gentile lead the Mountain Lions (10-7, 5-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) in scoring (14) and rebounding (7), while Jessica Brown had another solid performance putting up 12 points and grabbing five rebounds.

Metro State (14-1, 10-1 RMAC) continues to enjoy a terrific season as Dow posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on the night.
